A Camera Pair Meant for a Robotics Bench, Repointed at a Golf Ball
Spin Lab Golf opened in Irvine in 2016. Our founder spent the years before that working around motion-capture equipment used to verify part alignment on an assembly line — two synchronized high-speed cameras, triangulating a marked object's rotation down to a fraction of a degree, faster than any single sensor downrange could manage. Standing in a fitting bay one afternoon, watching a launch monitor infer spin from a ball already forty yards gone, the obvious question was why nobody had pointed that same kind of camera pair at the point of contact instead.
The first rig lived on a folding tripod for the better part of a year while the timing and lighting got worked out. The version bolted into the Release Bay today still runs on the same idea: read spin axis, spin rate, and launch where they're actually decided, before flight, wind, or a mishit downrange gets a chance to change the story.
